At first glance all you see is that Pierre Soulages' most famous series of pictures is black. Only recognize the right light can, as in 1919 French-born artist plays with color with the light reflections. His paintings vary, depending on what day and year you look at whether they reflect the sun rays or are only surrounded by gray daylight. For 60 years, Pierre Soulages in the international art world at home. He is one of the great European painters who were much before that, what in America was developed only five or ten years later. As the main representative of the non-representational-abstract direction in the contemporary French painting, he has dealt mainly with broad black bar shapes against a light background. The focus of his work is particularly dominated by its monochrome black phase of the "Outrenoir" which started in 1979. Pierre Soulages
loves black, she is to him the most original of all colors and a means of transport of the light. He developed various techniques that influence the perception of the reflection of light on a black background. By different light these vary constantly, and thus so do the feelings and thoughts, which the work causes the viewer. Pierre Soulages' view of art is so beyond the actual work: "A work of art always consists of three parts: his material existence, the artist and the viewer." The artist's works are large, he thinks nothing of framed pictures that look like windows, but would rather give his works the Stofflickeit of walls, which blend into the architectural space in which they depend. The tool, which he has in his studios in Paris and sees Sète, therefore, more like a painting operation of the equipment: large brush, spatula and paint bucket.
