a melodrama and a modern musical: the emigrated to America in Czech textile worker in Selma suffers an eye disease that leads to complete blindness. It also affected her son, Gene wants to avoid this fate. To finance the necessary surgery, it takes next to her factory job in addition to working from home and save every dollar. In her little spare time she rehearses with her friend Kathy in an amateur troupe for a musical. If her life gets too hard, she escapes into the world of music.
But Selma's small, private life plan seems doomed to fail, as it is released into the factory and their disease progresses rapidly, even before she has the money for the operation together. It becomes a murderer at the request of her neighbor and landlord, the police Bill.
